My First Blog Post: an introduction to me and the site

This is a rare photo of me looking good mid-race. This was taken during the 5k at the 2019 Missouri Valley Indoor Track and Field Conference Championships in Ceder Falls, Iowa.

I suppose welcomes are in order. If you clicked on this post welcome! If not, how on earth did you stumble upon this? I apologize for the awkward beginning; I don’t know the proper way to start these things off. If I had to list my skills, autobiographical introductions would not make an appearance. One of the skills that would make an appearance on that list is running, so that’s what I am going to write about. I started running competitively in the fifth grade. The year prior my older brother signed up for cross country and loved it so that summer I ran the local 5k and the coach “recruited” me mid-race. I spent the next six years chasing after my brother, and, eventually, I won two individual state championship titles in cross country and an additional five state medals in track and field. All of that culminated with me coming to Illinois State University to run on the NCAA DI cross country and track and field teams. Apart from running in circles, I am majoring in journalism and a sports reporter for the campus newspaper; The Vidette. I am now in my fourth year at ISU and, as a fulfillment for my COM 285 class, I created this blog site. My hope is that I can offer some insight into the world of competitive running through a personal and entertaining lens. I plan on sharing personal anecdotes, race recaps and other current events happening in the sport, as well as take a deeper look into some of the issues the sport faces.
